Understanding poverty

Poverty is more than a lack of money

It also limits access to education, employment, care, culture, social networks and personal development.

Problems reinforce one another

  • insecure or low-paid employment
  • limited educational opportunities
  • health problems
  • poor or expensive housing
  • debt and financial stress
  • administrative and digital barriers
  • language barriers and isolation

The invisible side

Shame, guilt, fear, loneliness, stress and low self-esteem are often invisible. They make it harder to seek help. Respectful and non-judgemental support is therefore essential.

“First listen to understand. Only then can we look together for what truly helps.”
